Biographical Information

Sergeant William B. Carson has been with the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department since 1975 and is presently assigned to the Criminal Division as a Detective and the present assignment is to property crimes. He holds a BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law. He began his career in Law Enforcement in 1975 as a patrol officer. He was assigned to the United Narcotics Detail Operation (UNDO) in 1979 and held the position as a special/undercover narcotics investigator in six Alabama Counties around and including Jefferson County until 1984. In 1984 to late 1985, he was assigned back to the Jefferson County Narcotics Division and worked in the diversion detail and was responsible for checking 104 Drug
Stores in Jefferson County. From late 1985 until January 1995, he worked in the Patrol Division as a patrol officer and was re-assigned to the Criminal Division as a general case Detective. Since being with the Sheriffs Department, he has worked numerous high profile cases that have included homicides, chop shop investigations, drug trafficking, fraud, and identity theft cases. He has been an active member of The International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) for 10 years. He has received numerous commendations and is only one of two men to receive the Metal of Merit with the Sheriffs Department. He is a past Vice President of the Property Crime and Recovery Investigators of Alabama (PCRIA), for four years.  He is currently the President of PCRIA.
